ABOUT MT. ABRAM
Mt. Abram is an independent, family-owned ski area and bike park in Greenwood, Maine. We’ve been doing things our own way here since 1960.
We’re not a big resort, and we’re not trying to be one. We’re a small mountain with a hardworking crew, a strong connection to our community, and a belief that getting outside shouldn’t have to be complicated or out of reach. We care about keeping skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking accessible, creating a place where people feel welcome, and treating our guests, our employees, and our neighbors well.
A lot has changed at Mt. Abram over the years, but that part hasn’t. We still believe there’s plenty of room for a mountain that’s affordable, approachable, independent, and true to itself.
Keeping the Mountain Within Reach
We believe more people should have the opportunity to ski, snowboard, mountain bike, and spend time outside. That means doing what we can to keep a day at Mt. Abram affordable, approachable, and easy to understand.
For us, affordability isn’t about running a special every once in a while. It’s part of the decisions we make every day. We work to keep our pricing straightforward, offer accessible ways for beginners to get started, and create programs that help more people find their way onto the mountain.
Accessibility is about more than price, too. It’s about creating a place where you don’t need to know all the lingo or have all the right gear to feel like you belong. Whether you’ve been coming here for decades or you’re clicking into skis or rolling onto a bike trail for the first time, we want Mt. Abram to feel like a place you can be.
Independent by Nature
Mt. Abram is family-owned and independently operated, and we think that matters. Decisions are made here by people who know this mountain, work alongside the people who keep it running, and care deeply about what Mt. Abram means to the community around it.
We’re a small team, which means you’ll see a lot of the same faces doing a lot of different things. We work hard, help each other out, and do our best to solve problems when they come up. We don’t always have the resources of a large resort, but we’re resourceful, we’re willing to try things, and we’re not afraid to do things a little differently when it makes sense for Mt. Abram.
Most of all, we try to keep things straightforward. We believe in being honest with people, communicating openly, and following through on what we say we’re going to do. No hidden agendas, no unnecessary fuss. Just good people working hard to take care of a place we believe in.
Part of Western Maine
Mt. Abram has called Greenwood home since 1960, and our connection to Western Maine runs much deeper than our address. Our employees live here, our guests are our neighbors, and generations of local families have grown up skiing, riding, working, and spending time on this mountain.
Being part of this community comes with a responsibility to be a good neighbor. We believe in showing up for the people and organizations around us, building partnerships that create more opportunities to get outside, and making Mt. Abram a place where the community can come together.
That can look like a lot of different things, from welcoming local students onto the mountain and working with community organizations, to hosting events, supporting local causes, and simply creating a place where people can gather. We want Mt. Abram to contribute to the place we call home, and to be the kind of neighbor we’d want to have.
A Mountain for Every Season
For most of our history, winter defined Mt. Abram. Skiing and snowboarding are still at the heart of this place, but today there are more ways, and more seasons, to experience the mountain.
In the winter, you’ll find everything from first turns and family ski days to challenging terrain, uphill laps, and plenty of reasons to stick around after the lifts stop spinning. When the snow melts, Mt. Abram becomes a lift-served mountain bike park, with trails built for progression, from approachable flow trails to technical terrain and some seriously fun downhill riding.
Summer has brought a new energy to the mountain, but the things that make Mt. Abram feel like Mt. Abram haven’t changed. It’s still about getting outside, trying something new, spending time with good people, and having a mountain where there’s room for all of it.
Still Mt. Abram
Mt. Abram first opened in 1960, when brothers Larry and Norton Cross turned their idea for a ski area in Greenwood into a reality. More than six decades later, the mountain looks a little different. We’ve added lifts and trails, expanded into mountain biking, welcomed new generations of skiers and riders, and found plenty of new ways to bring people together.
Through all that change, we’ve worked to hold onto what matters. Mt. Abram is still independent and family-owned. We’re still a small team that cares deeply about this mountain and the people who spend time here. And we still believe that outdoor recreation should be welcoming, affordable, and accessible to as many people as possible.
Keep it simple. Treat people well. Be a good neighbor. Make it easier for people to get outside. Work hard, be honest, and stay true to who we are.
