Lift Mechanic – Entry Level

Full-Time, Year-Round | Mt. Abram Ski Area & Bike Park – Greenwood, Maine

Job Summary

Mt Abram is seeking a full-time, year-round entry level Lift Mechanic to join our team. A love of the outdoors, strong mechanical skills and drive to learn are at the core of starting your Maintenance career. The ideal candidate will enjoy working outdoors in all conditions, work well independently and in a team, self-motivated, and work well under pressure.

Entry Level Mechanics will complete daily, weekly & monthly inspections, preventative maintenance, and assist lead mechanics in projects and troubleshooting malfunctions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults of ski lifts or other equipment.
  • Repair and maintain resort equipment as needed.
  • Keep workshop in a clean and safe working environment.
  • Organize and maintain shop tools and shop equipment in good repair.
  • Assist with resort construction projects as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by manager, such as snowmaking, vehicle maintenance, lift operations and grooming.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Skilled in providing outstanding customer service.
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Equipment repair experience

Physical Demands

  • Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • Must be mentally attentive and focused at all times.
  • Must be comfortable climbing and working from towers, up 50 – 70 feet.
  • Must be able to hike/ climb rugged, steep and slippery surfaces.

Shift Requirements:

  • Hours may be long, including early morning through early evening.
  • Frequent weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Age Requirements: must be 18 years of age

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license to operate ATV’s or vehicles.

Director of Mountain Sports

Full-Time, Year-Round | Mt. Abram Ski Area & Bike Park – Greenwood, Maine

Position Overview

Mt. Abram is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Mountain Sports to oversee the strategic leadership and daily operations of both our Snowsports and Bike School programs. This full-time, year-round position plays a vital role in ensuring seamless seasonal transitions, delivering exceptional guest experiences, and fostering a positive and professional instructional culture.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Mountain Sports will collaborate closely with other departments to ensure alignment across operations and to uphold Mt. Abram’s commitment to service, safety, and community.

 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the Snowsports and Bike School teams to cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing environment.
  • Hire, onboard, and train seasonal staff for both winter and summer instructional programs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to ensure quality instruction and consistent service standards.
  • Promote and reinforce company policies, procedures, and core values throughout the department.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of both Snowsports and Bike School departments, including lesson assignments, instructor scheduling, and on-hill coordination.
  • Oversee lesson booking systems, including the creation and maintenance of online products, class schedules, and availability management.
  • Collaborate with Guest Services, Marketing, and Group Sales to ensure cohesive and efficient resort-wide operations.
  • Provide operational support to ticketing areas as needed to ensure a smooth guest flow during peak periods.

Financial & Program Management

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets
  • Monitor revenue, expenses, and payroll to ensure financial health and performance of instructional programs.
  • Identify opportunities to expand revenue through new lesson formats, camps, and guest programming.

Guest Experience

  • Champion a guest-first mindset by ensuring every visitor receives outstanding service from initial inquiry to final day on snow or dirt.
  • Proactively address guest concerns or feedback with professionalism and follow-through.
  • Support group programming by working directly with the Group Sales team to ensure a high-quality, consistent experience.

Internal Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain open and effective communication with instructional staff regarding schedules, events, promotions, and operational updates.
  • Participate in cross-departmental meetings and planning sessions to align on resort initiatives and elevate the guest experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree preferred.
  • Certifications through PSIA, AASI, PMBIA, or similar organizations are not required, but will be strongly considered.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a team in the ski or bike industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working within a Snowsports or Mountain Bike School setting.
  • Experience in both skiing and mountain biking is preferred, but not required—a willingness to learn is essential.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, collaborate, and problem-solve effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning new software platforms; experience with lesson booking systems is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and enthusiastic about contributing to a small, passionate team.
